"Emma has been a superb tutor during this difficult time she’s been in constant contact with support and ideas. I once was a face to face student moving to online sessions over FaceTime which has been a great. I would highly recommend Emma to anyone wanting to learn guitar. So far she’s helped with my timing, breaking down ways of learning each note on the fret board, different strumming techniques, warm up exercises and basic solos and I’ve only had a handful of lessons. She’s very friendly and very analytical in her approach to teaching."

"Thankyou for a fab Rockschool taster session today. Connor, Keira and I all really enjoyed it. I thought it was really good how you started with getting us all doing some rhythm excercises. I don’t think I'd appreciated before just how important rhythm is!!! We all really enjoyed having a go at using the different instruments. I've always wanted to have a go at drums. It was fab! It was great that it lead us to playing an actual rock tune. I really don’t have any negative feedback. Thank you so much."

"Emma is very personable and a joy to learn from. She has a fantastic ability to teach, for me she simplified things that had baffled me for a long time, she has reignited my interest and I cannot wait for my next lesson."

About Purple Monkey Music

Hi there thanks for dropping by! Purple Monkey Music provides tuition in guitar, keyboards, drums, music technology and songwriting at my home studio (or at your home if you prefer). Also, Purple Monkey Music specialises in School and Community Projects which can be delivered with either a bias towards Music or Music Technology. I also provide services in Recording and Production, on location and at my project studio, in addition to Live Sound services. I am DBS checked and have Public Liability Insurance. I have a Degree in Creative Music Technology, the PTLLS teaching qualification and have attended tons of training including Music Leader, Protools 101 and Arts Award.

I have seen how music can change lives, increase confidence, self esteem and motivation and help with literacy and ICT skills. As a teacher I try to be fun, encouraging, positive, innovative, inclusive and resourceful. I can teach music just for fun or with a view to gaining ABRSM or Rockschool qualifications.

From an early age I had a passion for creating my own music. I developed a fascination with multitrack recording, bought a 4-track and progressed onto an Atari ST with Cubase. I played guitar, keyboards and bass in various rock bands and eventually did a Degree in Creative Music Technology. During my Degree I built up a portfolio of high quality compositions, recorded a 40 piece male voice choir, learned how to fix and upgrade my PC and got my first taste of teaching.

I then worked at a City Learing Centre in Rotherham where I honed my computer skills on both PC and Mac and delivered various creative projects to Primary and Secondary School Pupils and Adult Learners. This led to a job as a Music Worker with Barnsley YMCA where I helped to develop and deliver Tarn Rocks, Arts Award, Songwriting, Recording, Production and Performance activities with children and young people.

In the last few years I have been freelancing, teaching 1 to 1, delivering my own Rockschools, doing occasional recording work and getting into live sound. I currently work for Artforms Leeds as a Music Tutor in addition to my other projects. I play drums in a Psychadelic rock band and keys in a covers band and I'm hoping to do some live looping once I get the hang of it!!!!
